Shiite Muslims Hold Maulid Parade in Katsina 

Shiite Muslims, followers of Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky in Katsina, held a Maulid celebration and parade in honor of Prophet Muhammad (S). The event, which took place at the Arabic Teachers College (ATC) field in Katsina city, marked the eighteenth annual celebration, attracting attendees from various religious groups, emergency aid organizations, and even Christian clergy, including pastors.

Speaking at the event, Sheikh Yaqub Yahaya Katsina, a leading Shiite cleric and organizer of the Maulid, described the month of the Prophet’s birth as a time for fostering unity among communities. He stated, “This is not only for Muslims but also for our Christian brothers, who are our fellow creations. We must show love and compassion toward one another, as this is the core teaching of Islam.”

Sheikh Yaqub further emphasized, “At this gathering, we invite both Christians and Muslims from different denominations. The main wisdom behind this is following Allah’s commandment: 'O you who believe, hold firmly to the rope of Allah and do not be divided.'”

He went on to address the issue of religious conflicts in Nigeria, stating, "There are enemies of both Islam and Christianity in Nigeria who do not want Muslims and Christians to understand and love each other. They view this unity as a threat. That’s why they constantly try to sow hatred and discord between us. We, however, have established ways to strengthen our relationship. If any conflict arises incited by the enemies of Nigeria, Christians who seek refuge in our homes will find safety. Similarly, we advise Muslims to seek shelter in churches if violence erupts in Christian-dominated areas.”

Sheikh Yaqub also stressed the importance of mutual respect within the Muslim community, saying, “We see every Muslim as a complete brother. We pray together, eat together, and live as one.”

The event highlighted unity and the avoidance of oppression, with hopes that such solidarity will lead to a better Nigeria in the future. The celebration concluded with the presentation of awards to distinguished scholars, Islamic schools, and organizations in attendance.

The Maulid celebration has become a significant platform for promoting interfaith understanding and cooperation, emphasizing that despite religious differences, peaceful coexistence and mutual respect are essential in building a harmonious society.
